This Week's Episode........
"Fifteen Years
  and Still Going Strong!"

 August - 2007

In This Week's Episode...

2007 has been great so far, because we've been training hard, getting creative and looking forward to adding new stuff to the shows and our projects. Our fifteen year anniversary is coming up and after over 3000 performances in 16 countries we feel we have a lot to celebrate and much more to share.

It's Christmas Special time again and we are extremely excited about the creative talent that will be in this year's production. Read more about this year's "Special Ghosts" Moonie and Broon, The Washing Well Wenches and Dave Cox on our Christmas Page! We'll have a new trailer coming up as well as interviews with this year's cast and a much more on our Christmas page. So check back periodically or better yet, join the email list and we'll keep you in the loop!

EXTRA! EXTRA! Third Christmas Special performance just added! Tickets are available now. Check out our Christmas page to read all about Sunday, December 9th's "Special Fifteen Year Anniversary Performance" or go ahead and Purchase Tickets Now!

Ticket to all THREE of this year's Hack and Slash Christmas Special, the Musical!  performances are available for online purchase at Tickletleap.com, or by calling the The Chesapeake Art Center at (410) 636-6597. If you order them from The Chesapeake Art Center, they'll send them to you directly so you won't have to pick them up at the show! (They are holding certain seats that you can't get online, including the first three rows of the VIP section!)

Watch this year's trailer for Hack and Slash Christmas Special, the Musical!

If you've never seen the show, you may want to check out last year's trailer which features highlights of previous shows!

Warning: repeated viewings may lead to ticket or DVD purchases.

We had a great time at the 2006 Hack and Slash Christmas Special, the Musical! We think it was the best show yet and we raised enough money to fulfill a great little girl's wish! With your help we raised more than $7000 dollars in two nights to send four-year-old Sarah, from Dunkirk, Maryland to Disneyworld. This year, we hope to double that!

Hack and Slash are on now on MySpace! All you MySpace junkies can find us at: myspace.com/HackandSlashShow

We will be putting content on our MySpace page that you won't be able to find anywhere else, including some rare footage of Hack and Slash doing the television weather report and a great video of an answering machine message that was left from a live stage show, so check it out!

You can also find comedy gravedigger Barry Croaker on his new MySpace page which features new original comedy videos! Find Barry Croaker at: myspace.com/BarryCroaker

The Hack and Slash Family Christmas Abum!
We are hard at work on our Christmas album. It will include all the original tunes from the musical by Maia Rodriguez as well as new music and a fantastic cast to be announced! The cover art will be a painting by John “Hack” Davis and we will be raffling or auctioning it off at the show to raise money for our charity.

Hack and Slash Photo Contest
Hey photographers! We are excited to announce the 2007 Hack and Slash Action Comedy Photo Contest. We've got some great prizes lined up so read on. We will be accepting submissions in three categories and we will select a single winner in each:

Action Shots
We are looking for shots that capture dynamic swashbuckling action. If you can fill the frame with an expressive, sharp, action-packed image, you can win this category. It's challenging to get good shots of swordplay so good luck.

Comedy Shots
Think silly, comical and fun. The photo that captures the spark of laughter and makes us smile when we see it will win this category.

Audience Shots
We get a lot of pictures of us doing what we love, but our favorite part of what we do is the people we get to entertain. So, let's see a picture that shows people having fun at our show. It would be nice if we are in it too, but that's not required.

Rules & Prizes:

  • You may submit as many photos as you like, by email to PhotoContest@hackandslash.com - please write "PHOTO CONTEST" in the subject line of the email and include your name and contact information in the email.
  • Submissions may also be mailed on CD or DVD to Hack and Slash Photo Contest, 5765F Burke Ctr Pkwy #125, Burke, VA 22015
  • Deadline for submissions is November 1, 2007. Winner will be announced within 15 days.
  • Photos may be manipulated, but the untouched original must be sent along as well. No text may be added to the image. Photoshop work is appreciated, but foremost, we are looking for a good photo.
  • Color, B&W, Sepia etc. are all acceptable
  • A single winner will be selected in each category. Each winner will receive $75 and their choice of H&S shirts and a DVD or CD. Participants are eligible to win all three categories.
  • An overall winner will win their choice of a Gold VIP seat at our 2007 Christmas Special or a 2008 Season Pass to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire or Maryland Renaissance Festival.
  • We will acknowledge any other outstanding entries with honorable mentions with prizes to be determined.
  • Got any ideas you want to try? We're game to get creative with you. Just chat with us and we'll see what fun we can get into. So get snapping shutterbugs. We can't wait to see your stuff!

Action Hero Boot Camp returns in Spring of 2008!
Come join the Action Hero Arts Association (AHAA!) as we spend two weekends in the mountains near Charlottesville, VA! Participants will learn to swordfight, crack whips, throw knives, make an action movie and more. Check out these videos and visit the AHAA! MySpace page for 2006 camp highlights.

Hack and Slash was invited to perform at the International Order of the Sword and Pen Paddy Crean Conference. The event took place in Banff, Canada back in January and we performed one evening, sharing a double bill with two British fight directors from the Royal Armory at Leeds. We had a great time and the show was a tremendous amount of fun. It was an honor to perform for our peers and mentors, many of who are the top fight directors and stunt coordinators working in stage and screen. It was a particular treat to perform for our primary teacher and mentor, Brad Waller who taught both of us at the Shakespeare Theatre Professional Training Program and United Stuntman Association and Society of American Fight Directors founder, David Boushey who was Slash's sponsor on his journey to becoming a certified teacher. Most of all, it was an amazing, full circle for Slash to perform for his first stage combat teacher, "Tai Chi" Bob Goodwin whom he had not seen since 1988. After the show Bob gave Slash a big hug which was worth the trip all the way to the Canadian Rockies. We were surprised at the awards banquet a few days later to be presented with an award for an outstanding performance. We are deeply honored to receive recognition from those whom we hold in such high regard and have helped us so much over the years.

As a way of paying forward the gifts that were so freely given to us by our teachers and friends, we will be offering the Hack and Slash, Action Arts Scholarship to assist a deserving student of theatrical combat in meeting and studying with the masters who can help them develop their skills and further their career. We will announce more on the scholarship at a later date.

If you look at the top of the hill at the Maryland Renaissance Festival you'll see a new face. Well not exactly new since she's probably been to just about every Hack and Slash show at Maryland for the last decade, but it's most definitely not "Erik the T-Shirt Boy." Bebhinn (pronounced Beh-vin) is our new purveyor of Hack and Slash stuff. She's a good friend and now our top MySpace friend. How does one get to be H&S's top friend? It's easy- just do what Bebhinn did and tattoo our logo on yourself.

Whoa! That's got to be a milestone for any comedy act when a fan tattoos you on themselves. We are honored, amazed, giddy and a little worried about her sanity. Thanks Bebhinn, we love you and if their was any doubt, you are definitely the all-time, number one ü ber-fan!!!!!!

Be sure to visit Bebhinn at the top of the hill - we have all kinds of new Hack and Slash Tshirts coming out during the run of Maryland, including the new Keg shirts, New Action Hero Longsleeves (very cool new design by Gigi), ladies Tanks Tops, a KARL shirt (finally!), and trendy new cool weather gear. We're even thinking about a small limited edition of "Pun-Squad" shirts!

    **Coming soon: H&S shirts online!

And that's this week's episode - until next time, remember to laugh!
