Spencer Humm plays the wily squire Slash Montant. Since 1987, he has enjoyed performing thousands of action and comedy shows all over North America, Europe, Scandinavia and Asia. Spencer has a degree in Theatre from Virginia Commonwealth University and is completing his doctorate in the field of human performance psychology. He has choreographed and performed at venues including: The Washington Shakespeare Co., The Washington Opera Co., The Folger Shakespeare Library, The Source Theater, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The Shakespeare Theatre's Shakespeare Free-For-All, The National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts, The Paris Ballet, Armed Forces Entertainment and numerous regional and community theatres in the DC area.
He has been a featured guest on many national radio and television programs, including Westwood One's Jim Bohannon Show as well as the CBC, and NPR's popular program, Fresh Air. He is featured as the demon "AA" in the film Divine Intervention. The 1996 Computer Game of the Year, Civilization 2, in which he portrays a character, sold over one million copies. He has assisted and taught classes in safe stage combat at George Mason University, Catholic University, The American University Summer Repertory Theatre, Washington and Lee University, The National Cathedral School, Western Maryland College, McDaniels College, The University of Maryland, St. Mary's College, The Shakespeare Theatre Professional Training Program, Canada's National Banff Centre for the Performing Arts, The Bethesda Academy of Performing Arts and Sundance Studios. Spencer has served as the entertainment director for several renaissance festivals, where he also directed fights and stunts for more than a dozen live-action stunt productions. Spencer is a Certified Teacher with The Society of American Fight Directors as well as a founding member of The Globe Fighter's Guild and The International Order of the Sword and Pen. He is a Certified 'Advanced' Actor/Combatant with The Society of British Fight Directors and Fight Directors Canada (1995) and served as the Virginia Regional Representative for the SAFD. A lifelong martial artist, he has studied various styles and currently enjoys Jiu-jitsu and Systema. An action-hero at heart, Spencer has pursued military combat and survival training with the Russian special forces and recently added skydiving to his list of adrenaline-addictions. In addition to teaching more traditional dramatic movement specialties, Spencer coaches bullwhip cracking and single-action pistol spinning at workshops internationally. As a member of The Tartan Terrors, Canada's Premiere Celtic Comedy Event, he has portrayed his comical gravedigger character, Barry Croaker, at theatres all over the U.S. and Canada for over a decade. Spencer has taught comedy improvisation as the Creative Director of Comedy Sportz DC and is a member of Emitt's Boys, DC's Toughest Improv Group. In Cleveland, Ohio, he co-founded Comedy-Olympics a comedy-improv show that has continued to run nationally since 1998. As a member of District of Columbia's Unscripted Players (DCUP), he recently won the 2005 DC Comedy Festival. |

When not playing the rich, swaggering braggart, Sir Nigel Hack, John Davis shares his amazing personal experiences as a metaphysical speaker. Prior to taking up his sword as two-thirds of the comic sword-fighting duo Hack and Slash, John performed extensively at Renaissance Festivals throughout the nation for over a decade; over five thousand performances in fifteen countries.
As an actor, singer, and fight choreographer, John's favorite roles and projects include: the title role in Jesus Christ Superstar, The Acafellas, Cyrano De Bergerac, The Fights of Romeo and Juliet, the Purple Pumpernickel Stunt Show, the Perils of Emily Stunt Show, the Vile McNasty Stunt Show and the Maryland Renaissance Festival's Human Chess Matches (which he directed for seven years). Other performances include the Folger Shakespeare Library, Greenbriar Resort, Armed Forces Entertainment, Birmingham Museum of Art, Metroplitan Arts Club, and the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. He has made many national radio and television appearances including he Today Show, Deco Drive, Good Morning Atlanta, and numerous regional and national broadcasts. As the Entertainment Director/Fight Director and Stunt Coordinator at the Florida Renaissance Festival and the Tennesee Renaissance Festival John has enjoyed teaching hundreds classes in Improvisation, Dialect, Character Development, Movement and Stage Combat. He restructured the entertainment programs of these festivals yielding exponential growth. John has been directing, producing and performing many choreographic projects all over the U.S for over two decades. John is also a bullwhip and western gunplay coach. Having studied Graphic Art and Architecture at the Pittsburgh Art Institute and The University of Delaware, he brings his design skills to Hack and Slash by designing and building all of the costumes for the show, as well as producing most of the illustrative and animated artwork which appears on Hack and Slash T-shirts videos, and promotional materials. He is constantly refining his skills as an increasingly popular swordsmith and uses his bladed creations in his onstage work. John's rapiers and broadswords have been seen in productions at The Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern (Hamlet), The Maryland Renaissance Festival, and The Georgia Renaissance Festival (The Three Musketeers). In addition, John is a certified actor combatant with the Society of American Fight Directors ('96). He has also appeared as an improvisational comedian at Comedy-Olympics and performed as comic relief in Celtic Crossroads (starring the Grammy Nominated Rogues of Scotland). |
